The younger half-brother of Naby Keita has been training at Liverpool’s academy, sources have told ESPN FC.
The half-brother is not Petit Keita, a 17-year-old striker, who ESPN FC incorrectly identified on Thursday as the player training with the club. Instead, it is a younger half-brother, who Liverpool did not identify by name for safeguarding purposes. He has been training at the club’s Kirkby complex on an informal basis.
Liverpool’s Keita, 23, moved to the club this summer from RB Leipzig after agreeing a move in August 2017.
In an attempt to settle into his new surroundings, Keita, who hails from Guinea and speaks French, is eager to learn English as quickly as possible.
“I am following a course, I am really motivated to speak English, it is really important for me,” he said recently. “I want to be able to speak to the coach, I want to speak to the other players on the team and I am really working hard.
“I am hoping in six months I will be able to do these interviews in English.”
Keita has made 10 appearances for Liverpool so far this season, although he is currently sidelined with a hamstring injury.
This story has been updated to reflect that a player identified earlier is not the one training with Liverpool. Petit Keita left his German club, FC Inter Leipzig, earlier this summer.
